French toast


French toast is a very economical way to make a dessert pastry.

It also has the advantage of containing less fat and less sugar than most cakes. We use stale country bread or brioche, fresh or not.
The cinnamon is optional and we can also include maple syrup.
This recipe dates from the 4th century and is part of "De re coquinaria" of Apicius, an old recipe book from France.

Ingredients

  • Bread: 100g
  • Egg: 35g
  • Milk: 60g
  • Sugar: 5g
  • Butter: 2g
  • Cinnamon:

Ustensiles

    Frying pane.

Preparation


    Beat the eggs.
    Add milk, sugar and in option cinnamon, and mix.
    Soak into the bread.
    Melt butter in skillet.
    Fry on both sides.

Serve


    Hot or cold. Possibly covered with maple syrup.
